Overview
Enjoy this 11-day trip with five nights in the arctic circle and north: five opportunities to see the Northern Lights.
Starting in Helsinki, we will get to know Rovaniemi (Finland), Kiruna (Sweden), Narvik (Norway), and Oslo, on an approximate route of 2,798 kilometers.
According to astronomers, solar activity will be particularly high in 2025-26 and that will create "significantly more" auroras dancing across the night sky. "We are now approaching the maximum, which is why I think we can expect a particularly high level of activity and basically auroras every few days. Whereas five years ago you had to wait weeks to see anything at all," says Darren Baskill, lecturer in physics and astronomy at the University of Sussex.
This is good news for anyone planning a trip to the Northern Lights in 2025-26. There won't be a better time to see the Northern Lights, at least not in the next 10 years.

Gastronomy
The diet on this trip is as follows:
All breakfasts in hotels are included and are buffet style.
To ensure a seamless experience, we also include 5 lunches and 2 dinners in the Arctic region we are traveling, because there are limited opportunities of restaurants existing, many of them only catering for groups on the basis of pre-bookings. In this way we assure that the often tight program can be managed without delay and wasting time for searching catering facilities.
The included lunches and dinners are either in the format of mini buffets with a choice of 2-3 main dishes, salad or soup, desert, or served 2-course meals. When lunches or dinners are not included in the tour, our tour escort will be happy to advice about restaurants where to get meals, from simple sandwiches to fine dining, according to your preferences.
Among the traditional Finnish dishes we recommend trying are:
Sauteed Reindeer (Poronkäristys): A traditional Lappish dish made with thinly sliced reindeer meat, which is sautéed and served with mashed potatoes, lingonberry sauce, and some vegetables.
Salmon Soup (Lohikeitto): The creamy salmon soup is popular all over Finland. It is made with fresh salmon, potatoes, leeks, carrots, and sometimes peas. Dill is a key ingredient, giving the soup its distinctive flavor.
Karelian Pie (Karjalanpiirakka): Karjalanpiirakka is a traditional Finnish pastry filled with rice porridge, mashed potatoes, carrot, and rice filling. Ther crust is typically made with thin rye dough.
As for traditional Swedish dishes, they would be:
Swedish Meatballs (Köttbullar): The small, seasond ground meat balls often made with a mix of beef and pork, are typically served with lingonberry sauce and potatoes.
Cinnamon Rools (Kannelbullar): They are popular at the Swedish coffee break (“fika”). The filling of the snails consists of butter or margarine, sugar and cinnamon, optionally cardamom, brushed with egg and sprinkled with sugar.
As examples of traditional Norwegian dishes we propose:
Pinnekjøtt: Pinekjött ist a traditional Norwegian winter dish. It consists of salted and dried, sometimes smoked, lamb ribs. Traditionally, these were soaked in salt water for at least a day, then cooked and steamed over birch branches.
Gravlax (Gravlaks): Raw salmon cured with a mixture of sugar, salt, and dill. It is typically served with mustard sauce and flatbread.

FAQ
How to dress when traveling to Nordic Europe in winter?
People in Nordic Europe say: “There is no bad weather, only bad clothes.” It is all about wool and layers. If you follow these guidelines on how to dress in the Arctic, you will have a warm and comfortable Arctic Experience.
To feel warm and comfortable in the wintertime it is important do dress layer-by-layer:
First Layer
The first layer next to your skin should be long-sleeved and long-leg thermal underwear and wool socks. It is best to avoid cotton underwear as it quickly becomes wet and sweaty, and then you will get cold. Important: We recommend that you wear 100% merino wool next to your skin.
Second Layer
The second layer should consist of a long-sleeved, wool or fleece sweater and trousers. Thickness is depending on temperature and conditions.
Third Layer
The third layer should be a jacket and pants that is both water and windproof. It can be insulated or a thin shell depending on conditions, activity and what your first two layers consists of. For extremely low temperatures, cotton without a waterproof membrane is recommended. A scarf around your neck, and a pair of thick wool socks are a must!
Where to buy winter clothes for traveling in the Arctic region?
There are basically 3 opportunities:
- Outdoor shops in your home country
- Internet shops like Amazon
- Outdoor shops upon arrival in Helsinki
