Nasik is a city in the state of Maharashtra in India. It is located northwest of the Maharashtra region, 180 km from Bombay and 220 km from Pune. It is the administrative headquarters of the Nashik district and is known as the "wine capital of India", located in the Western Ghats on the west end of the Deccan Peninsula on the banks of the Godavari River. In addition to naming the famous Nassak Diamond, the city is known for its picturesque setting and pleasant climate. The Godavari River flows through Nashik from its birth, which lies southwest of the city, in Trimbakeshwar.
